There are a lot of things to consider when it comes to moving into a new place that you want to call all your own. You have to consider how much space you have, what amenities you would like to see in the apartment, and even the location so you don’t spend too much time commuting and going from one location to another during the day. All of these are important and you need to shop around to find an apartment that is going to work with all of these things so you can be comfortable and safe in your new place.

With that in mind, another factor that is important here is choosing an apartment that will work with your budget. You may find the perfect apartment along the way. But if it costs way more than your budget, then you will have to turn it down or run into some problems financially along the way. But, how do you make sure that you choose an apartment that you not only love, but will be affordable?

A good rule of thumb to consider is choosing one that is no more than 30% of your income. This is usually what the landlord is going to look for when choosing to give you the apartment and it ensures that you will have some money leftover at the end of the month for utilities, groceries, and some of the other bills that you will need to pay during the month without having to worry about going off and ruining your finances at the same time.

Of course, if you are able to get the amount lower then this is even better. If you can find an apartment that is 25% or 20% of your income, that will free up more of your money to pay down debts, put your money down for some of your retirement or will help you when it is time to reach another financial goal along the way. This may be hard to do in some cities, but searching for the right apartment and having a roommate will make a difference.
