For those who aren't aware, in D2R Items you would hire followers to go through the gates of hell with you, but once the followers were killed, you needed to bring them back with cold cash. The new followers appeared in every zone, which means they were superior to others.

This was changed in Diablo 3, where instead of hiring mercenaries to help you, you obtained three different companions throughout the story campaign. The Scoundrel, Sorceress, and Templar, who represented ranged DPS, tank, and magic users respectively. In my Diablo 4 adventure I only encountered helpful NPCs who stuck around for a few hours in dungeons before vanishing to the sunset. When I asked Jackson how the game's follower function would work it was explained that "for the initial release version,, we will have a few locations in the story in particular in which you'll see certain known NPCs accompanying you and helping players figure out what Lilith is doing around the globe.

"We don't have anything to make public about the Diablo 2 type follower you've hired, so we'll stick with the campaign for the moment." Insist on the moment for now.

With a wry smile they continue "stay and watch, we could have something exciting in the near-term to reveal, but we can't make any promises." The announcement immediately provoked an immediate response from the producer of the dungeon Ash Sweetring, who channelled her Inner"Mr. Burns with an 'interesting hand motion that was visible on the screen. What's that? That's sus.If any variation of the follower system does make them into Diablo 4, I would prefer it to be a Diablo-style hired gun rather than omnipresent players. I really enjoyed the vast range of different abilities followers brought to the table with Diablo 2 and would love to see this system redesigned. This opens up D2R items cheap even more opportunities for various types of builds, as well as incredible demon-slaying abilities chains.
