Chlamydia is a common sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by the bacteria Chlamydia trachomatis. It can be transmitted through vaginal, anal, or oral sex and can cause serious health problems if left untreated. In women, chlamydia can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), infertility, and ectopic pregnancy.

Fortunately, chlamydia is easily treatable with antibiotics. The most commonly prescribed antibiotics for chlamydia are azithromycin and doxycycline. Both of these medications are taken orally and are highly effective at curing the infection within a week or two. It's important to take the full course of antibiotics as prescribed even if symptoms go away before finishing the medication to ensure that all of the bacteria have been eliminated from your system.
