D2R Ladder Runes players are pondering why the heck the higher will would even revive Dung Eater to begin with, with one Redditor comparing it to being like asking The Joker in order to save Gotham.

One of the very notorious characters in most of Elden Ring is Dung Eater, an NPC that may be found at the Roundtable Hold alongside a pile of corpses. No one is really sure how Dung Eater got his name, because he doesn't exactly reveal it during dialogue, but it is theorized it comes from him eating souls which are located within the butt. It's a whole thing, believe me.

As iconic as Dung Eater is so that is as interesting as possible to theorize how he got his name, elden ring runes players are beginning to wonder what part he even has within the game's world and why the Greater Will would even revive him, begin with. A conversation was recently going on the Elden Ring subreddit by Redditor Creative-Nerve7850 that asked that exact question, together with his revival being when compared with being like asking the Joker in order to save Gotham.

The top response around the thread to date is one from Redditor Straight-faced_solo also it does have sense. According to them, the Greater Will "doesn't provide a shit" and just wants any type of order in society, something which Dung Eater somehow brings. Straight-faced_solo does note it's an "awful" order, but it is better than none based on the Greater Will.

Redditor Yarzeda also backs this theory, noting the Greater Will was thinking about the queen of the "whacked-out mutilation cult" since its an avatar, which makes it clear it doesn't do background checks and just wants to see who's the strongest in The Lands Between to see if "you have what must be done to beat the Lands Between into shape". Seemingly, Dung Eater does.

Most of the theories boil right down to the fact the Greater Will didn't revive anyone based on the good of the hearts or the things they could do - it made it happen to see who had the possibility to become the Elden Lord. As bizarre as Dung Eater is, he apparently comes with that potential, so uh, don't piss him off.
