"The process of WoTLK Classic Gold restoring the game isn't straightforward so it's crucial to us to dedicate the time and effort to get it right--this includes poring over a myriad of game versions, data, and code thoroughly analyzing all changes we've implemented over the time," Blizzard's dev team published.

"All the work we're doing will ultimately enable us to recreate a genuine classic experience on a platform that's far more optimized and stable as it helps us avoid latency and stability issues. The other improvements will include botting and anti-cheat detections, customer service along with Battle.net integration, and other conveniences that do not affect the core gameplay experience."

Blizzard confirms that the original WoW Classic prototype was essentially rebuilt patch 1.12: Drums of War from diverse archives and source code. This revealed some substantial problems such as game crashes, issues with new video cards, incompatibility with Blizzard's current login mechanism, and more. Developers have revealed that they've built a second prototype, employing the game's new code , including all of its structural enhancements. Blizzard first revealed World of Warcraft Classic at Blizzcon 2017. where it unveiled the game's features.
