While it's certainly a surprise that MT 2K23 made a deal like this, especially late in the rollout, the trend of the game itself probably implied that this might happen one day. However, even with that said, this wasn't even 2K's concept, it was J. Cole's idea. "Three and a half " years ago after he made a shot in one break of The All-Star Weekend Saturday Night, J. Cole said 'Ronnie, I'd love to be on MyCareer and to help you think of the possibility of that."

Ronnie 2K tells Complex. "I collaborated with my team to bring this idea to life. It was perfect to collaborate with Ronnie 2K. When we put out that tease, everybody assumed it was going to be another basketball player...it allows us live in fashion, cultureand music and culture, which is why 2K has a seat at the table."

NBA 2K has evolved from to a mere product of hype in the gaming industry. It's now a cultural moment with its intersection of pop culture, music fashion, sneakers, and of obviously, basketball has taken the franchise to heights cannot be matched by other games. With its latest edition, NBA 2K23. the game broke records when it announced J. Cole as the first ever rapper to be featured on the cover of NBA 2K with the Dreamer Edition. While it's no surprise that 2K had a cover of this, especially at the end of the game's release, the prevailing trend of the game's gameplay may have hinted at this happening some day. But, despite that this wasn't actually 2K's idea, it was J. Cole's.

"Three and a half " years when he dunk at one of the break times on the All-Star Weekend Saturday Night, J. Cole said 'Ronnie, I'd love to be in MyCareer and assist you in thinking about the ideation around that"" Ronnie 2K tells Complex. "I have worked with my team to bring this idea to the forefront, but it was appropriate to collaborate with his. When we released that tease, everybody thought it was going have another basketball player...it allows us to live in fashion, culture, music, and 2K has a seat at the table now."

The J. Cole cover is one of the four covers that are included in the new edition of 2K The other covers include Michael Jordan, Devin Booker as well as a duo consisting of Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi. NBA 2K23 is all over social media since the NBA ratings falling this week. Kevin Durant even took at playful joking when his 2K rating was released. On the week prior to the game's launch, we chatted with Ronnie Singh aka Ronnie 2K about the decision to place MJ in the front cover of the game instead of LeBron and also on the reason Devin Booker was selected over other NBA stars, MyCareer, ProAm, gameplay, and much more.

Being a part of the process, what is the biggest thing you're excited about in 2K MT? Well, getting to see Jordan at the top of the list is always amazing and working with himis a dream, as is the assertion that we made feel so proud of our game: the best of all time. It's really a testament to the things we wanted to create from a commercial perspective as well as for how the game's future will be.
