Replacement and Repairs: Say Goodbye to Hassle

Say goodbye to the days of pool light repairs. Old fittings used halogen lamps, which were inefficient and consumed a whopping 100W of power per fitting. They were also prone to leaking as the lamps heated up and cooled down, creating a siphon effect that allowed water to seep into the fitting. However, Spa Electrics fittings come fully sealed, except for the termination zone, which is sealed with a gasket and lanolin once terminated. This ensures that the fittings will never leak. With LED technology, these fittings are virtually maintenance-free, allowing you to enjoy your pool day and night without any worries.

Who Can Replace Pool Lights?

Although replacing or maintaining pool lights may seem like a simple task, there are strict rules that apply due to the association with bodies of water and potential risks. According to the AS3000 (wiring rules), pool lights in a body of water where people are expected to be present must be installed, maintained, and replaced by a licensed electrician. When we diagnose pool light issues, we perform various tests to ensure safety, such as voltage testing at the fitting, checking for damage, and conducting an insulation resistance test to prevent voltage leakage from the cable or light fitting.

Transformers and Power Supplies: Safety First

Pool lights are required to operate at extra low voltage, with most transformers for pool lights running on 12V AC. It is crucial that each pool light is connected to a separate transformer or separate windings of a single transformer, as long as they are electrically isolated. This ensures that in the event of a fault with your pool lights, power will not run across the pool water to other light fittings. We strongly recommend replacing older transformers that run on 24 or 32Vac. Even at these low voltages, being wet makes a person more susceptible to electric voltage, leading to potential discomfort or electric shock. Additionally, it is essential to protect the pool light circuit with a safety switch, ensuring that power is cut off in the event of a power supply fault, preventing any potential electric shocks.
